Mumbai is such a beautiful place...

I open my eyes, to a beautiful Monday morning,
I watch as a speeding black Honda City, runs over a new born kitten.
The mother calls out to her young one,
The crows rejoice as they find a new meal.
The car disappears into the distance.
Mumbai is such a beautiful place to live in...

I open the door,
I meet happy neighbors, jealous neighbors,
the grumpy newspaper boy, the cheerful milkman.
We barely know each other,
and we really don't care,
but if something were to happen,
we know someone's always there behind us,
for support, for strength, or maybe just to pull us down.
A wonderful feeling of insecurity which no warm village could offer.
Mumbai is such a beautiful place to live in...

As I walk down the road,
I see a broken heart here,
a lottery ticket winner there,
one time beggar, other moment lord, back to beggar again because he believed in a broker and lost his life in shares.
Mumbai is such a beautiful place to live in...

At the train station,
the daily festival of confusion has begun.
the blind woman sells books, and the people know better than to cheat her.
people buy, people sell.
some cross the tracks and get a one way ticket to hell,
but, within the next five minutes, someone else crosses again, safely.
Mumbai, such a beautiful place to live in...

I reach the place, that earns me my bread, butter, cheese and sada dosa.
I see this small world trapped in a rat race, it created for itself.
The cars, the money, the speed, the wind in your hair and the pollution in your lungs.
The pride of being someone, or the carefree smile of being no one at all.
Hungry wolves feed on a junior's hard work.
The wolf knows, he was junior once;
The junior knows, he'll be a wolf someday..
Mumbai is such a beautiful place to live in...

I'm returning home, the day is done,
all my worries disappear with the setting sun,
but they'll be back tomorrow -
tax, bills, the guy at work hitting on me, the screeching banshee we call our boss..
I see the same car ,
it whizzes by,
skids uncontrollably and crashes into a dead end.
The mother is still calling for her kitten.
Mumbai is such a beautiful place to live in.
